Celebrating the 16th UAE National Environment Day
When it comes to good causes, there are no coincidences.
This year on February 4th, the UAE celebrated its 16th annual Environment Day. On January 16, I was selected to be the 16th Earth Condominium Ambassador, after 23 years of work on the environment.
Be a Legend of Giving
The end of the year 2012 and the start of a New Year is a great time to renew our commitment to giving. Our best gift to the young generation is help them experience the beauty of giving and caring for the environment. Henry Ford once said, “Bringing people together is a start, keeping people together is progress, and getting people to work together is success.” To his quote, I would add, inspiring people to change together is a legacy.
Soul Connections
There are people on this planet with deep self-awareness. They have a different way of reflection and observation than the rest of us. They interpret and understand the events in their lives and in the universe differently than the rest of us.
Back To The Future, Part 2
But what we need to prepare for life is not only formal education. We need a foundation for growth, on which the education we obtain will flourish and blossom.
What we learn in our early years, from kindergarten to grade 6, is most of we need in this life, as Robert Fulghum writes in his book, “All I need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten”. Most of that knowledge remains in our memories and gradually decreases, until only 5% remains upon college graduation. Now, imagine if that pattern could change, or even better - revert!
Back To The Future, Part 1
Every September, kids and young adults around the world return to school, some with excitement, and some with apprehension.
Even before the summer end, advertisers launched campaigns to attract parents and children with school merchandise, school supplies, stationery, and clothing – but not toys or games! In my youth, going back to school was exciting – or not, depending on friends, teachers and school environment. And my children, predictably, follow the same pattern – friends and teachers play a major role in the school experience.
Dining With An Unconventional Sheikh
Dine with The Sheikh is a unique cultural program held in The Emirate of Ajman in the UAE.
It is opening the doors to our Palace in Ajman and inviting international guests to experience traditional Emarati (local citizen) cuisine and culture.

Ramadan and The Power of Less
Ramadan is a holy time for over 1.6 B Muslims around the world, a time to fast and to be closer to God. The sick, elderly and travelers, as well as pregnant or nursing women, are permitted to break the fast and make it up later in the year. If they are physically unable to do this, they must feed a needy person for every day missed. Children begin to fast from puberty, although many start earlier.

The Environment and Youth Leadership
Before I was born, and during my childhood, my family struggled in a challenging desert environment with fewer resources than today. I lived in moderation under my parents’ guidance. My father told me, “If you want to be happy, don’t wait for me to give you wealth. Instead, reduce your desires!”
I learned the hard way, through many challenges early in my career. Though my military experience and my work in oil and gas fields and petrochemical industries in remote areas, I gained experience and appreciation of living well with little.
My Eco-Hero: Sheikh Zayed
I admire leaders who seek to enhance every single aspect of their people’s lifestyle, such as our former President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan. Our leader was an earth and desert lover who loved falconry and horses, and bred camels to preserve the natural heritage of his country. His love for the environment and culture was infinite and he was committed to each member of society.
Key Sustainability Issues
Our world struggles under the increasing demands of consumption. We face many challenges with overuse of materials and high consumption rates, and those things have a negative impact on human beings, animals and the environments.
In the United Arab Emirates, and in the region, water and energy are major concerns. Many movements were created to call everyone to take action against climate change, and groups measured by how much we saved -- in one hour or one day or during our whole lives -- and it is measured by how many people are calling for action.

Antarctica: Wisdom of The Past
On our return to Ushuaia from the Antarctica Peninsula we pass again through the nasty Drake Passage! So much happened during this trip: exciting adventures, interesting experiences, beauty, adventure, reflection and more. The days passed quickly, as in a dream.
